I am Marie Dunn, also known by my pen name Toya J. I am a passionate social worker, two-time marathon finisher, author, and the heart behind Bold Flamingo Publishing. I am also the Founder of Albert Dunn Memorial Fund. I obtained my master’s in social work from Fordham University.

As an immigrant with three siblings, a nephew, and a beloved mother, I've learned that personal growth often comes through suffering. This belief, along with my conviction that pain, when faced head-on, eventually fades, has been a guiding force in my life. My journey has been shaped by resilience, love, and the strength I found in my writing, which serves as my safe space. When I am not serving others, I find joy in food, believing that cooking is an art that brings comfort and connection. My story is about transformation, embracing pain, and always finding the light at the end of the tunnel.

My life is guided by a simple, yet powerful motto is: “BOLD”- Brilliantly Overcoming Life’s Disappointments. In essence, growing through whatever I go through. This belief has been a constant companion in my journey, shaping my resilience and determination. It reminds me that every challenge is an opportunity for growth and transformation.
